The Acreage Parks and the Acreage Library

When locals talk about the Acreage park, they usually mean Acreage Community Park, the largest of the nine parks run by the Indian Trail Improvement District. It is the community’s backyard, with ball fields, playgrounds, open lawns and a southern expansion that added more room for sports and events. Youth sports leagues use it heavily, and the district and the Acreage Landowners’ Association use it for community gatherings such as the Sleepy Hollow Halloween event in the fall.

The district’s other parks are smaller neighborhood spaces: Bob Hoefl Park, Citrus Grove Park, Coconut Park, Downers Park with its dog park, Kidscape Park, Sycamore Park and Temple Park. The one that sets The Acreage apart is the Nicole Hornstein Equestrian Park on Hamlin Boulevard, which reopened in March 2024 after a renovation and has riding rings and room for trailers. The district has been adding new footing and working with a citizen equestrian committee to bring more riders back.

The Acreage library, formally the Acreage Branch of the Palm Beach County Library System, sits on Orange Boulevard just east of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, behind the main shopping center. Opened in 2012 on land that was once an orange grove, it is about 30,000 square feet and was the first county building to earn LEED certification. Outside there is a walking path, an art installation remembering the groves and a hitching post for anyone who arrives on horseback. Inside you will find a children’s area, a CreationStation maker space, meeting rooms and a full calendar of classes and story times.

Riding on the road shoulders and canal banks is part of daily life here, but trails are informal and shared with traffic, so riders should wear helmets and bright colors. Visitors without a horse can still enjoy the rural feel by walking the library path at sunset or by watching a show at the equestrian park when one is scheduled. Business listings for local barns, feed stores and services are on Best of Palm Beach County.
